The first-ever IQM National Inclusion Conference, aimed at putting inclusion at the centre of the education agenda, has been hailed a success.

Did Not Disappoint
Over 160 delegates from across the UK gathered at the inaugural IQM National Inclusion Conference which took place in Birmingham recently.
Joe McCann, CEO of IQM, explained, “We are absolutely delighted with the success of our first conference. We knew that if we could get teachers, support staff, and everyone involved with education together at one event, the result would be mind-blowing, and our conference did not disappoint.
“We had 12 workshops running throughout the day which covered a wide range of topics: from Enabling Environments to Developing an Inclusive Global Curriculum; from Curating Positive Behaviour to Meeting the Needs of Pupils on the Autistic Spectrum, and many more. These workshops were all designed by teachers and delivered for teachers – that’s what made our conference so exceptional.
“Our presenters brought decades of experience and a wealth of knowledge to their workshops. They really delivered something special, that was obvious from the conversations and the buzz at the conference.”

Important Event
The National Inclusion Conference also featured a special performance from the inclusive theatre company, Chickenshed, along with a series of bite-sized nuggets of advice from some IQM schools. The day ended on a high note with the amazing Signing Choir from Knotty Ash Primary School performing and giving the delegates the chance to try and learn some sign language and perform along with them.
Joe McCann added, “Over the last two decades we have come to recognise what it is that makes a school truly inclusive – and to know the difference this can make to the life chances of students, and to everyone involved with the school.
“It is all our job to make schools a place where children and staff can flourish and that’s why we knew it was so important to have an event like this. We can’t wait to do it all over again soon.”
