• Danielle Fox – Deputy Headteacher/Head of School, Faith Academy
In the 2021 census Everton was identified as the most deprived area of Liverpool with high levels of organised crime. Faith Academy has 41% SEND, 46% PP, 42% EAL and many children have adverse childhood experiences and are vulnerable to exploitation.
The school’s primary goal is to ensure pupils feel safe, loved and secure and be supported to gain confidence, resilience, emotional literacy and have the skills to contribute positively to society in the long run. Faith Academy offers a sanctuary of calm and nurturing.
The behaviour policy and systems are all based on Zones of Regulation and restorative practice. To ensure consistency and the ongoing success of this approach there is high quality training for staff and pupils, the language of self-regulation is woven into curriculum delivery alongside teacher modelling. Each class has a toolbox and wall display and some pupils have their own bespoke toolbox. As a result of this pre-emptive approach the school has had no suspensions in the last two-and-a-half years and no permanent exclusions in the last five years, it has the best attendance in the city and progress is excellent.
