• Peter Hines, Headteacher, Sarah Vaughnan (Deputy Head – Behaviour Hub Lead), Rob Harrison (Deputy Head – T&L, Curriculum) from Perryfields Primary PRU.
Perryfields PRU has been judged to be outstanding by Ofsted on four consecutive occasions and was one of the initial 22 national lead schools on the DfE Behaviour Hubs programme. They have recently been given the accolade of gaining the IQM National Inclusion Champion Award.
They support pupils with highly complex social and emotional needs and provide behaviour support and training to the 113 primary, first and middle schools in South Worcestershire. They are a DfE alternative provision case study.
Perryfields work collaboratively with local schools with the aim that children are reintegrated back into mainstream. They have developed an outreach toolkit for mainstream schools to upskill their staff.
Pete Hines is a strong advocate for Quality First Teaching and the importance of building strong and nurturing relationships with all pupils. He was awarded an OBE for services to education in the King’s 2023 New Years Honours list.
Perryfields has a values-based approach to appointing, training and supporting staff to ensure full commitment to the delivery of a shared vision. They talk about ‘flipping the mindset of staff’ and for staff to ‘look through a different lens’. Staff knowledge of pupil need and of neurodiversity is a training priority.
Staff have outstanding relationships with children and have an innovative approach to delivering an exciting and engaging curriculum through which pupils develop a sense of wonder and empathy. Pupils see it as worthwhile to be good. Staff work collaboratively on long term strategies for supporting pupils not quick fixes. Staff wellbeing is high as a result of working in a highly successful school which is making a difference.
