Sir Jonathan North College is an outstanding, highly successful girl’s Secondary School in Leicester. As their IQM Flagship project they have been working on recognising and celebrating diversity across the school so that it is an integral part of the culture, fabric and ethos of the school and not tokenistic or bolt-on.
The formal and informal curriculum provision is driven by an in-depth knowledge of the cultural diversity of the local community and diversity profiling at whole school, year group and class level. There is a proactive approach to planning; provision is tailored and adapted to meet the specific needs and cultural make up of individual year groups. Activities are informed by student voice and led by student Diversity Ambassadors. This group of remarkable young people are empowered to drive change and have been an integral part of the culture shift in the school.
Curriculum Leaders have planned schemes of learning through the lens of diversity with careful consideration given to both local and global contexts. This is particularly impressive in the Humanities Curriculum.
