This week we welcomed Barrowford Primary School, Footsteps School and Firth Park Academy in to the IQM family.
Diversity is its strength
Barrowford Primary School achieved the Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence status. When our Assessor visited the Lancashire Primary they noted that the School thrives on its diversity.
The Assessor explained, “The school manages extremely high levels of mobility. In 2019, 43% of the pupils who started in Reception had left before Y6 and this level of mobility is increasing. Arrivals have significantly lower ability than leavers and join with a greater severity of SEND needs. This leaves the staff with less time than most schools to work on raising standards for these pupils, especially at KS2.
“In addition, many pupils move on and tend to leave with higher ability than the cohort they leave behind.
“Nevertheless, the school regards this level of diversity as its strength and is willing to take on this ongoing challenge. Newly arrived pupils settle very well due to the way that they conduct transition induction, and the pupils make good progress.”

Fantastic support
Next up it’s over to the beautiful Cayman Islands where Footsteps School achieved the Inclusive School Award.
Here it was the parents who lauded the school. One parent told our Assessor about the progress her son had made at the School and appreciated the support given by the very approachable staff.
She stated, “this is a great school and the staff provide fantastic support. It is fully inclusive and the school leaders are very hands-on and really approachable. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them.”
Another parent added “everyone at Footsteps goes above and beyond to make sure the children are included and valued despite any special needs they may have.”

‘Warm and inspirational’
Finally this week Firth Park Academy received the Inclusive School Award.
Following their visit our Assessor praised the Sheffield school Principal saying, “The academy is led by a warm and inspirational Principal who continues to teach GCSE Geography and Animal Care and is ever-present at the heart of the school.
“On the first day of our visit, he was available to meet the Assessor and share his vision and pride in the academy before he left to meet four new students at the academy, having already welcomed students beginning their initial teacher training. All staff spoke of his open approach and willingness to listen to all concerns, providing a constructive response. “
