Workshop outline

The focus of this workshop is supporting EAL learners, particularly those new to English, and their parents in school. The strategies Oliver and Tayce have implemented include a clear structured approach to supporting learners, with reference to assessment, learning and outcomes. They have also provided opportunities for parents to develop their English proficiency and work-based skills.
• This workshop is suitable for primary colleagues and those settings who welcome new children with limited initial levels of English.
Presenter’s School
Woodhouse Primary Academy, an IQM Flagship school, is a mainstream primary school in the suburbs of Birmingham with a resourced provision catering for children with autism. The school currently has 475 children on roll, from Nursery to Year 6. 24% of pupils having identified SEND and 7% of pupils have an EHCP. 33% of pupils speak English as an Additional Language and 48% are in receipt of Pupil Premium top-up funding.
