Debra Joyce
IQM Assessor
I have 34 years of experience in the teaching profession which includes a range of roles from SENDCo to Teaching and Learning Consultant and most recently an Executive Headteacher. I have always worked in inner London schools as I am passionate about inclusion and the richness diversity in communities can offer everyone.
In my role as a consultant (2006 – 2010) I worked within the primary phase training staff at all levels in the then, new phonics programme of Letters and Sounds. I undertook SATs moderation and supported schools in an advisory capacity working closely with the School Improvement Partners. I knew inclusion was close to my heart when after graduation with BEDHons in 1998 I soon embarked on an Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs in 1995 and then the Level 7 Diploma in SPLD (Dyslexia) in 2014.
I have been an Executive Headteacher of two inner London schools since 2019 and previous to that I was the Assistant Head, progressing to Deputy Head and SENDCo and then Headteacher in 2014 in one of them. It was at this time we embarked on gaining IQM status and one school that is now a Flagship School for Inclusion and the other is being assessed for COE.
