St Luke’s C.E. Primary School is a single form Church of England primary school in Lambeth, London, with 202 pupils. It benefits from being part of The Windmill Cluster, a group of ten schools who work together to facilitate inclusion and share expertise, allowing all pupils to attain the best possible outcomes. Their aim is to foster acts of kindness and value each pupil, creating an environment where every child can believe in themselves and develop resilience and self-confidence. The school’s motto is Believe, Achieve, Thrive, highlighting their desire for every child to grow and accomplish their potential. They value every learner and put great effort into uplifting everyone in the school community.

A Warm and Welcoming Community

The staff at St Luke’s are notably passionate about inclusion and are extremely welcoming to guests and pupils. Prospective parents are encouraged to visit the school, and inclusion is woven throughout all aspects of the school building and day. The Headteacher prioritises inclusion, quality teaching and experiences for every single child. St Luke’s runs a stay and play group for local children and caregivers and supports the foodbank based in St Luke’s Church nearby, both encouraging donations and providing food vouchers and advice.

Equality for Everyone

St Luke’s have an ambitious “Anti-Racism and Inclusion Charter” which aims to foster understanding and encourage positive relationships. They believe each learner and member of staff is of equal value, with differences being respected and recognised. Pupil behaviour and participation is to a high standard across the entire school, rooted in the school’s commitment to expecting respect and kindness to and from everyone. The school aims to listen to and involve all parents and pupils at every opportunity, especially among individuals who share protected characteristics.

Parents can email or tweet the school and access news via the school website, and there is an open-door policy. Parent consultations take place regularly, and the recent Mother’s Day Event proved popular. This desire for equality and inclusion is deeply and intrinsically linked to the school’s mission to value and support everybody.

Growing and Learning Together

Pupils and staff love attending and working at St Luke’s Church of England Primary. Staff know each pupil well and there is a family atmosphere. Pupils care about each other and understand the accommodations and support that they each need. The school’s Wellbeing Group recently organised Wellbeing Week, which was extremely successful.

Higher Level Teaching Assistants have led training sessions and there is collaboration between members of the Windmill Cluster. Through this the school has seen a noticeable improvement in academic performance and growing confidence amongst learners. All pupils are given the opportunity to succeed regardless of their starting point. A Speech and Language Therapist visits the school weekly, along with CAMHS, and an Educational Psychologist.

SEND Learners are benefitting from early screening and support, as well as weekly progress monitoring and special sessions such as Bucket Time, Art and Sensory Interventions, Journaling, Emotional Literacy Support and Brain breaks, all of which have proved extremely popular and useful.

Bella the Therapy Dog is a particularly popular part of school life, providing emotional support and comfort to pupils in need. Bella has an enormous positive impact on pupils and has become a central and beloved part of the St Luke’s community. Bella particularly helps those who struggle with social interaction and communication but is known and appreciated by all at the school.
