St. White’s Primary School Achieves Inclusive School Award

August 17, 2026

Congratulations to St. White’s Primary School for their achievement of the IQM Inclusive School Award. This award is in recognition of their commitment to continuously evaluating provision and identification of areas for development, its work on the development of pedagogy to improve inclusive teaching practice, its passionate and effective pastoral support, its tenacious approach to promoting each child’s desire and capacity to always learn and the creation of cultural capital for all.

Living Values, Leading Futures

The manner in which the values of St. White’s both reflect inclusivity and are also firmly embedded within all aspects of the curriculum and daily life of the school, is very impressive. Children learn about and are given ample opportunities to cultivate and demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude, responsibility and commitment, clear communication skills, reflection and celebration. All this is underpinned by a strong sense of ‘Growth Mindset’ and a ‘Curriculum for Equality’. This not only aims to give children knowledge and skills to enable them to ‘hold their own,’ lead and have a positive impact on the world, despite having experienced any kind of barriers themselves, but also encourages them to be conscious of and understand issues pertaining to other cultures, societies and individuals.

Leading with Passion and Purpose

The school is led with a healthy balance of passion, experience and energy. Governance is committed to inclusion and staff at St. White’s are driven to ensure that their pupils are proud of their heritage, are enabled to grow out of any ‘disadvantage’ and take up their roles as competent and confident world class citizens, wherever they choose to be. The mission is to be ‘Always Learning’, in all aspects and throughout life.

The commitment to knowing every child extremely well and ‘loving them’, despite any challenges they might present, is core to St. White’s ‘modus operandum’. Huge effort and investment are made in ensuring that children are fit to learn, in order that they can ‘keep up, not catch up’. Careful and meaningful assessment identifies where targeted intervention is required to enable all pupils to fully access the curriculum and engage positively with all aspects of school life.

Inspiring Excellence for All

Children benefit from a curriculum which promotes breadth and depth of knowledge and skills. There is discrete teaching of subjects and pupils are encouraged to behave as masters and experts in each area, thus motivating, fostering aspiration and easing transition to secondary school.  Communication skills are at the heart of the curriculum and oracy is central to all lessons. There is a culture of accepting and appreciating diversity and that everyone needs support at some time.

The wealth of physical and sporting activities in which children are involved deserves particular mention. The school has gone the extra mile to ensure that there is something to attract and engage everyone. It is also clear that the school has become increasingly valued within the community and is considered as something of a ‘beacon’ in the local neighbourhood, as confidence and involvement in that which the school offers has gradually grown. It is a lovely school.
