St John’s Primary is above average sized school in Ripley, Derbyshire. It has held the IQM award since 2014 and was reaccredited in May 2017.
‘Living, Laughing and Learning Together’ is not just a strapline, it is tangible across the school family. St John’s CE Primary is a highly inclusive school where staff care passionately through everything they do. Everyone listens to each other and all are committed to supporting the children in the school, whatever their need. Children and inclusion is at the core of the school and is integral to the school’s success and sustainable development.
Effective Teaching and Learning
Children who attend this school are polite and articulate. Many begin their school life with levels well below those expected of their age group, despite this, the effective teaching and learning enables the children to make good progress.
There is a strong energy in this school community and everybody supports each other. The Head and Senior Leaders are extremely driven and the teaching staff are committed to supporting the children they teach and care for.
St John’s CE Primary is the ‘Best of a church school and community school put together.’ ‘It aims to meet the needs of the whole community.’ The unreserved dedication of the Senco and Learning Mentor is commendable. They model, support and lead the high quality and committed Teaching Assistants and increasingly skilled lunchtime supervisors in developing their understanding of individual children. All staff are valued and on the same wave length, wanting the best for all children regardless of difference.
Parents Well Informed
Parents are well informed and reliant upon the school to meet the needs of their children. The school has excellent relationships with them as the school genuinely listens and acts in the best interest of the child. The Headteacher, together with the Governors and Senior Leaders have driven forward improvements in all facets of the school’s work and they remain ambitious for all children. The disadvantaged and those with special needs are very well supported through careful analysis of need and well-planned intervention and support.
Inclusion is a key feature of daily practice in this school and the children are aware of how they, and their peers, are valued and supported. All children from reception to Year 6 are consistent in that, they all say, they enjoy school and …….
‘We make progress because everyone cares.’
