St Bride’s Primary , Belfast has been reawarded the Inclusive School Awarded again.
An Inclusive School
I am convinced that St Bride’s Primary School, Belfast is an inclusive school. This was evident across virtually all areas assessed during the three-year re-evaluation visit conducted on 4 April 2017, from the welcome received on arrival through to the engagement with pupils, teachers and other stakeholders and the high regard in which the school is held by the community.
Educational Landscape in Northern Ireland
The Principal, Senior Management Team and staff have worked tirelessly to enhance the inclusive nature of the school over the three-year period since being awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark and Centre of Excellence status, and I am of the belief that this has continued over the last academic year, in challenging circumstances in terms of the overall educational landscape in Northern Ireland and with issues that affected the school. Despite these, the children’s education was not detrimentally impacted, and in fact they were protected from the challenges.
Culture, Ethos and Values of the Staff
Through my engagement with the school over the three-year period, I have been privileged to gain knowledge of the fundamental workings, culture, ethos and values of the staff and the school and have been pleased to see these further strengthened through the overall school development planning process and engagement with the IQM process.
This report provides details of the school’s self-reflection on progress to date, provides comment on the assessment and makes recommendations for further development on the school’s inclusive journey.
Sources of Data
Through engagement with the assessment, consideration of the school website, the school’s community profile and a wide range of relevant ephemera, I have concluded that the school comfortably meets the requirements for the reaccreditation of the Inclusion Quality Mark for a three-year period after which period a full review should take place.
The IQM Process
The school reported that it was completely satisfied with the assessment and the IQM process. It is a pleasure to have been able to spend time with this inclusive school and I wish to take an opportunity to thank the Governors, Principal, Senior Leadership Team, Pupils and Parents for their tireless efforts, for the welcome extended and hospitality shown for the visit.
