Ripon Cathedral School, Ripon in North Yorkshire, Achieves the Inclusive School Award.
Dynamic Leadership
The Leaders of Ripon Cathedral School are passionate about ensuing inclusion is at the heart of all their work. This was evident from the discussion with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, SENDCo, EYFS Lead and all those involved in the work and life of the school. They are clear that the school’s purpose is to serve their community and all children are welcome. They do all they can to ensure all children are supported to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Empowering Success
Clear structures and processes make a positive difference to pupils’ achievement. Ongoing CPD for staff around the whole school approach to growth mindset supports children to build character. The children talked about learning to aspire, flourish and love and gave examples of encouraging others and talked about the school’s assemblies where their good work is celebrated, with enthusiasm.
Open Door Policy
Leaders challenge themselves and are continually reflecting on their practice to ensure it meets the needs of all pupils and families. The SENDCo has an open-door policy, and her expertise is well utilised. Both staff and parents very much appreciate her support.
Shared Vision
The school vision is well communicated and lived in a very genuine sense. The school is at the heart of the community they serve. They have a strong presence in the life of the whole community and the children are well prepared in seeing themselves as having much to give to the school and wider world.
Mutual Respect
Positive relationships make sure children are happy and in turn achieve in all areas of learning and life. There is a strong sense of empathy and understanding. Everyone is encouraged to look for the good in one another and celebrate each other’s achievements and successes.
Inclusion at Its Best
The teachers promote inclusion. The structure of support for all pupils has been carefully planned and those children needing additional support benefit from staff who are well attuned to their needs. Individual provision maps detail the support for children. The support from SLT for the staff, means that they feel confident to plan a creative curriculum with many opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. The curriculum is challenging and interesting for pupils and one child said, “there is never a boring day.”
Lived Values
The rationale for undertaking the Inclusion Quality Mark assessment reflects their continued self-evaluation and passion for ensuring the school remains rooted in welcome and belonging to all. Ripon Cathedral School aims for all children in their care to be aspiring, flourishing, and loving. The inclusion agenda is essential for the school to support the community they serve. They foster children to aspire to be the best people they can be, to flourish and to love and be loved. It is lived through the way in which everyone is valued and cared for.
