Peartree Spring Wins Primary School of the Year

June 27, 2023

An IQM Flagship school has been named the Primary School of the Year at the Tes School Awards 2023.

Peartree Spring Primary in Hertfordshire scooped the prestigious accolade at a glitzy ceremony on Friday night.

Peartree Spring PS celebrates after scooping the Primary School of the Year title at the Tes School Awards.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of Education’, the Tes Schools Awards celebrates the extraordinary commitment, quality and innovation shown by teachers and support staff across the UK.

There are many reasons why this Hertfordshire school shone so brightly at the awards. Peartree Spring provides the very best encouragement and support for children and their families; there is a higher-than-average number of children in receipt of free school meals, SEND and Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and the school sets high aspirations for all the children attending.

High quality learning environments underline those high aspirations, featuring excellent displays, access to two libraries and classroom libraries. Children at the school have a wide range of opportunities for pupil leadership including the school council and eco team, and playground buddy and sports ambassador roles.

Staff, pupils and leaders work together to identify learning values to support the needs of the children, including resilience, persistence, self-motivation and risk-taking. Teachers constantly refer to these values during lessons and whole-school assemblies, with the belief that instilling these values will help the children to be successful in every aspect of their lives, today and in the future.

Encouraged to Thrive

Judge Alison Peacock said, “This school really demonstrated how both children and staff are encouraged to thrive. The work they’re doing around mental health and wellbeing throughout the school is impressive.”

Teresa Skeggs, Headteacher of Peartree Spring Primary School said, “We are so thrilled to accept the award on behalf of all our children, past and present – they are amazing individuals and always have been. For some of our children, our school is one of the loveliest places that they have. They love coming here, take pride in coming here, and I think that’s because we all make sure the experience they have here, is one they will never forget”.

“These awards showcase just how vital our education professionals are to every facet of this country. Teachers, leaders and support staff all play such an important role in schools: this is our chance to say thank you for all that they do.”
