Marine Academy Primary Achieves IQM Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence Status

August 17, 2026

Congratulations to everyone at Marine Academy Primary on achieving the IQM Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence Status. This remarkable recognition reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to inclusion, equity, and excellence, ensuring that every pupil feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Equity Through Inclusion

Leadership at the Marine Academy Primary describe the school’s commitment to inclusion as influencing, “how we teach, how we support, and how we listen”. Consequently, at Marine Academy Primary, they adapt approaches to meet individual needs, and lead a team where collaboration is encouraged, “to ensure that all pupils feel seen, valued, and celebrated.” It is in this way that leaders prioritise equity.

Ambition Beyond Boundaries

The curriculum at the Marine Academy Primary school has been reversed engineered to best support pupils to be ready for their secondary stage of schooling. Leadership states that the curriculum aims, “to ensure pupils are independently minded and confident citizens of the future.” The ambition for excellent progress and attainment is complemented by a commendable emphasis on developing cultural capital with the aim of children becoming “internationally minded citizens”.

Stronger Through Partnership

Communication with parents is a cornerstone of what happens at Marine Academy Primary, providing updates through annual reports, parents’ evenings, one-to-one meetings, newsletters and a Facebook page.  Parent workshops that give insights into the school’s curriculum and teaching methods are intended to help families support their child’s education at home.

Community Connections Matter

The school is evidently linked-in well with its local community. Marine Academy Primary capitalises on its coastal location, and not only in its name, through its links with the naval training provider Babcock, as well as Plymouth and Exeter Universities, enabling a number of initiatives that benefit the pupils. Pupils also benefit from the school linking with local community resources, such as The Box Museum, The Centre for Faith and Cultural Diversity and the local library service. An annual Dream Big Day links the pupils with local employers with the intent of introducing them to the notion of potential future careers, as well as the invited organisations becoming aware of the future pipeline of employees.
