Langer Primary Academy Achieves IQM Centre of Excellence Status

September 2, 2026

Langer Primary Academy has achieved IQM Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence Status in recognition of its deeply embedded culture of inclusion and its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported to achieve their potential.

A Culture Where Every Child Belongs

Langer Primary Academy is a school where inclusion is not simply a strategic priority but a lived reality. Across every aspect of school life, there is a clear and consistent commitment to ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported to achieve their potential.

The school’s values of ‘trust, care, aspire and achieve’ are deeply embedded and highly visible, shaping relationships, curriculum design, provision, leadership and community engagement. This creates a culture where pupils experience genuine belonging and where barriers to learning are proactively identified and removed.

Exceptional Provision for Pupils with SEND

The establishment of the Hub for students with complex needs has enhanced inclusive practice across the school and created valuable opportunities for integration, understanding and peer support. Staff demonstrate a detailed understanding of individual pupil needs and work collaboratively with families and external agencies to secure positive outcomes.

The intervention programme is phenomenal, including speech and language therapy, trusted adult support, ELSA, and wider therapies – the list goes on.

Sensory areas in each classroom provide superb opportunities for pupils with SEND to self-regulate when in-the-moment adaptation is required. The Hub provision, including new sensory rooms and specialist environments, provides high-quality support for pupils with complex needs and contributes strongly to inclusive practice across the wider school.

An Ambitious and Inclusive Curriculum

Through the CUSP curriculum, pupils benefit from a coherent and carefully sequenced learning journey that develops knowledge, vocabulary, curiosity and critical thinking. The curriculum is enriched through a wide range of experiences including Beach School, educational visits, themed weeks and enrichment opportunities that broaden horizons and raise aspirations.

Staff expressed strong support for the CUSP curriculum model and highlighted its effectiveness in developing extensive vocabulary, revisiting prior learning and addressing misconceptions through carefully planned retrieval opportunities. Reading, vocabulary and communication are significant strengths.

Teaching and Learning for All

The school’s investment in digital technology, including 1:1 iPads and accessibility tools, has been transformative in supporting participation, communication and independence for many learners.

Learning environments are calm, purposeful and designed thoughtfully to reduce cognitive load and maximise opportunities for success. Pupil engagement is excellent because of strong adaptations and a highly inclusive universal offer. A pupil commented that “teachers are kind in every single way,” reflecting the warmth, care and positive relationships that characterise the school community.

Partnerships with Families

Parents and carers are viewed as genuine partners in their child’s education and are welcomed into the life of the school. Communication systems are highly effective and accessible, ensuring that families remain informed and involved.

Timely communication with parents and carers is phenomenal. Parents and carers speak highly about the wide range of communication approaches, including email, telephone calls, conversations on the gate, Dojo and Tapestry.

At the Heart of the Community

The school is deeply community minded and Beach School is spoken about in high regard by pupils, staff and families. There is a real sense of belonging. Fantastic partnerships have been formed within Felixstowe, and significant funding has been sourced for the incredible sensory rooms within the Hub.

The school has developed meaningful relationships with local charities, community groups and businesses. Partnerships with organisations such as the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Litter Free Felixstowe, local churches, care homes and local sports providers enrich the curriculum while promoting citizenship and community engagement.
