Jersey Schools Are Excellent When It Comes to Inclusion

Two Jersey schools are leading the way when it comes to inclusive education. 

Committed to Truly Inclusive Education

Les Quennevais and Les Landes schools have recently secured the prestigious Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence accreditation from Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM).  

Each of these schools has demonstrated they are committed to sustaining and developing education that is truly inclusive and improves school life for students and staff.  

Congratulating the schools Joe McCann, CEO of IQM, praised them for their dedication to putting inclusion front and centre of school life.  

He explained, “Staff at Les Quennevais go above and beyond what is expected when supporting families.  The Inclusion Team’s work with families is impactful and families talk positively about the relationship they have with them.  The Director of Inclusion is strong in communicating what inclusion means at the school and the team supports parents and carers to access support from relevant organisations when appropriate.”

Turning to Les Landes, Mr McCann said, ““The school’s leadership is confident and purposeful.  The Headteacher supported by her Deputy have a strong knowledge of the school and they have a clear vision as to what they are trying to achieve for their community.   There is an honesty around the challenges within mainstream schooling, but they are clearly committed to ensuring that all pupils receive a high-quality learning experience.”   

He added, “We are delighted to have two new schools in Jersey joining the IQM family, and we look forward to working closely with them in the future.”

IQM’s Inclusive School Award is the only nationally recognised framework in the UK to celebrate the efforts schools are making to be inclusive. Over 6,500 schools in the UK have received the award or are currently working towards it.  

Les Quennevais and Les Landes join St George’s Preparatory School as current IQM schools on the island.
