Harborne Primary School Achieves IQM Inclusive School Award

September 2, 2026

Congratulations to Harborne Primary School on achieving the IQM Inclusive School Award. This recognition is a testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and ensuring every child is valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Inspiring Every Child

Harborne Primary School’s main purpose is to inspire and enable each child to achieve their full holistic potential through an enriched curriculum that builds on a child’s knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Promoting well-being is paramount in creating this happy, safe, respectful learning environment for all to work in. The staff are passionate and dedicated to ensuring that each child feels wanted and valued, equal to each other and nurtured as they move along their learning journeys. As one member of staff said, “we want the best for every child in our family friendly school community.”

Exciting Trust Partnership

From September 2026 it will formally join The Elliott Foundation Academies Trust. From speaking to one of their senior leaders they are very much looking forward to working with Harborne Primary School and the new Headteacher and to be in partnership with them as they continue to move forward.

Strengthening SEND Support

Staff have had quality training in identification of SEND and other related barriers to learning from the new SEND team. Identification and implementation of practical intervention are now readily used with a quicker use of involving external specialist support agencies for an increasing number of children who have received EHCPs and supportive SEND packages, while the EHCP process is being undertaken.

Empowering Complex Learners

The work observed in The Nest was based on all the staff really knowing and understanding this small group of highly complex special needs children, empowering them through total sensory communication approaches to move towards becoming verbal. The children know their routines which are reinforced by widget style timetables and expectations. Every opportunity was also given to give the children time to develop their gross motor skills both inside and outside their classroom. Resources were well used and creative in delivery. These children are becoming more self-regulatory and when things went a little ‘wrong’, the staff were quick to support, guide and deflect the child into moving to do the ‘right’ thing. These staff are experienced and highly trained to work in this “special school within a school.”
