Goosewell Primary Academy in Plymouth, part of the Reach South Academy Trust, has achieved the Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence status.

Strong Relationships Forge Success

Goosewell Academy is a happy school where children and staff like to come to work and learn every day. Parents/carers are assured that staff care about their children and that they do everything they can to meet their needs. The success of the academy is centred around strong relationships between adults and children and between adults at all levels. Many of the staff have been working in the academy for a long time and are totally committed to the children and the organisation. This is a real strength.

Coping with the Effects of Covid Restrictions

Although the academy has changed its Headteacher in recent years and has joined the Reach South Academy Trust, it remains a local academy that is very much part of its local community. The Covid pandemic has, as with everything, taken its toll on the day-to-day life of the academy, but despite the difficulties of restrictions and bubbles they have survived and even thrived. Everyone pulls together to ensure the very best outcomes for all of the children in their care.

Focussing on the Future

The academy is on a journey towards becoming a fully inclusive academy that meets the needs of all those who want to come to their academy. They are aware that this journey is never done, and they need to keep moving forward and change and develop as they go. There is no complacency and the Headteacher’s vision is one that is shared with the academy’s community. Together they are going forward and making change happen.

Collaborative Practice

The Academy is a great supporter of others who need their help, and they enjoy collaborating with others and sharing their practice and learning from others. This will serve them well as they continue their journey.
