Over 150 delegates from across the UK gathered in Birmingham earlier this week at the IQM National Inclusion Conference.
Joe McCann, CEO of IQM, explained, “This was our second National Inclusion Conference, and we are absolutely delighted with how the day went. We were joined by colleagues from right across the educational spectrum and we hope everyone found the day to be informative and went home feeling inspired with lots of great ideas to share with their schools.
“We were honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor of Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ken Wood, to open our event. He was very interested in hearing about everything IQM had to offer and was really keen to promote inclusive education in the Birmingham area and further afield.
“We had a wide range of workshops running throughout the day which covered a range of topics including: Creating a Positive Behaviour Culture; Fostering a Love for Learning in Early Years; Inclusive Leadership; Preventing Exclusion and many more. These workshops were all designed by teachers and delivered for teachers – that’s what made our conference so exceptional.
“Our presenters brought decades of experience and a wealth of knowledge to their workshops. They really delivered something special, that was obvious from the conversations and the buzz at the conference.”
The National Inclusion Conference also featured a keynote address from Sam Strickland, Principal of The Duston School in Northampton. In his address he focused on the importance of positive behaviour, and how an approach to positivity and inclusion can generate a real positive climate and culture for learning in schools.
Joe McCann added, “This is the 20th year of IQM and in last two decades we have come to recognise what it is that makes a school truly inclusive – and to know the difference this can make to the life chances of students, and to everyone involved with the school.
“It is all our job to make schools a place where children and staff can flourish and that’s why we knew it was so important to have an event like this. We can’t wait to do it all over again soon.”
