Cavendish View School Achieves IQM Inclusive School Award

August 28, 2026

Congratulations to everyone at Cavendish View School on achieving the IQM Inclusive School Award. This fantastic accomplishment is a powerful recognition of the school’s unwavering commitment to creating an environment where every pupil is valued, supported and empowered to thrive.

Flourishing Together Daily

Cavendish View School presents as a nurturing, highly relational and deeply committed special school community in which pupils, families and staff feel valued, understood and supported to flourish. The school’s published ethos, “with strong roots we grow and flourish together”, is not simply a statement but something clearly lived in daily practice.

Confidence Through Support

Pupils describe their school as “more fun” than previous settings and highlight how staff support them not only academically but emotionally, helping them to manage feelings, access learning and build confidence. Pupils are able to articulate strategies that support their regulation, such as taking movement breaks or accessing sensory environments, indicating a growing awareness of their own needs. This is underpinned by the school’s well developed approach to behaviour and wellbeing.

Stronger Through Collaboration

Staff also experience the school as an inclusive and supportive environment. Teaching assistants describe a culture which has grown increasingly open and collaborative over time, where communication is now more transparent and all staff feel involved in decision-making processes. There is a strong sense of collegiality, with staff supporting one another and sharing a common commitment to improving outcomes for pupils.

Personalised Learning Pathways

Within most aspects of provision, there is thoughtful, personalised practice. The curriculum is designed to be bespoke and responsive, with pathways that reflect pupils’ developmental stages and learning needs; albeit some aspects of this are fairly recent and not yet fully embedded. Pupils engage in learning through a range of approaches, including multi-sensory activities, play-based learning and structured communication focused interventions. The use of specialist communication systems such as LAMP software, Makaton and visual supports demonstrates a commitment to developing communication and interaction skills, which are rightly prioritised across the school.
