Congratulations to everyone at Boundary Primary School on achieving the IQM Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence status. This outstanding recognition reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child is valued, supported and empowered to thrive. Through visionary leadership, an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, innovative practice, and strong community partnerships, Boundary has created a learning environment where inclusion is not simply a priority but a way of life.   

Inclusive Excellence Embedded  

At the heart of Boundary’s work is a community mindset where there is a deeply embedded inclusive ethos. Inclusion is not an additional initiative; it is the thread that runs through leadership, curriculum, behaviour, family support and day-to-day interactions. They set aims that every child is “valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their personal best”, while the school’s “Boundary Way” and “Skills for Life” curriculum explicitly teach the social, emotional and relational competencies many pupils need to be taught directly.  

Visionary Leadership Driving  

Leadership is a major strength and gives this work coherence. There is clear moral purpose, but also a high level of strategic evidence based thinking and design. Leaders have not stood still in the face of ever changing complexity of needs. Instead, they have adapted provision, staffing and pedagogy in response to what children and families require. This is evident in the development of Acorns, Redwoods, the adapted use of soft landing principles, breakfast provision, structured curriculum for pupils with EAL, and increasingly refined assessment approaches.  

Ambition Without Limits  

The curriculum is broad, ambitious and carefully adapted. It is clear that pupils are not offered a reduced diet of learning simply because they are vulnerable or require additional support. Instead, the school has developed pathways and provision that help pupils access rich learning in ways that are developmentally appropriate and meaningful. During pupil voice, children spoke confidently about school values, growth mindset, phonics, maths, reading, outdoor learning, clubs, trips and opportunities such as coding, choir, sports festivals and a particular sense of pride in the annual Alive event.  

Responsive Teaching Practices  

Teaching and learning are notably adaptive and reflective. Across both mainstream and specialist spaces, adults use signs, symbols, visual supports, manipulatives, total communication, structured routines and highly responsive adult interaction to help pupils access learning. The observed Attention Autism high-interest methodology worked well in engaging pre-verbal pupils, drawing them into learning and focused interactions.  

Community Connections Flourish  

The school makes very strong use of the local, wider and global community. Children access clubs, health initiatives, sports festivals, cultural visits, dance, ballet, choir, coding, museum trips and a wide range of external partnerships. SEND pupils access all sports, vulnerable pupils are prioritised for clubs, and adults actively remove barriers to participation. The school also celebrates faith, culture and language in a way that helps children feel seen.
