Aughton Academy is a school where equity and belonging are at the very centre. Throughout the assessment visit the clear focus on strong relationships and raising aspirations was evident at all levels. A special feature of inclusive practice at Aughton Academy is the culture of excellence for all, fostered through a genuine focus on each child as an individual. The comprehensive range of inclusive, learning focused enrichment experiences are a unique feature of the school. Led by the Principal and Vice Principal, every staff member embodies the school motto of ‘We believe that our children can do anything they set their mind to.’ 

Learning Without Limits 

The trust curriculum is well adapted to the context of the school and includes effective opportunities for children to make a positive contribution to society through the comprehensive and exemplary personal development offer. The focus on inclusive practice ensures a range of diverse needs are met effectively and teaching and learning is responsive to presenting need and ever-changing circumstances. The adaptations sensitively matched to individual need were a privilege to see, thus demonstrating the strong commitment to inclusion within the whole class facilitated through personalised provision at child level. 

Breaking Down Barriers 

Flexibility, personalisation, and reflective practice are visible at all layers, demonstrating robust professional responsibility and full engagement with the inclusion agenda. Barriers to engagement, attendance and punctuality are swiftly identified and effective support implemented including provision of free breakfast club or effective partnership working with early help providers. A special feature of Aughton Academy is the well-established opportunities for learners to access enrichment activities beyond the classroom.

Partnerships with parents and the local community are a real strength of the school showing their appreciation for and understanding of the inclusive ethos. As noted in a parent testimony, “Aughton is a fantastic place. Every child is different and yet Aughton manage to pull out all the stops to make sure each and every child is cared for at all times.”
