West Cornforth Primary School Achieves IQM Inclusive School Award

September 7, 2026

Congratulations to everyone at West Cornforth Primary School on achieving the IQM Inclusive School Award. This recognition is a testament to the dedication, passion and commitment of the entire school community in creating a truly inclusive environment where every child is valued, supported and empowered to succeed.

Inclusion Inspires Success

West Cornforth Primary School is a highly inclusive, welcoming and aspirational school where leaders, staff, pupils and families work together to ensure that every child is valued, supported and enabled to succeed. Inclusion is firmly embedded within the school’s culture and underpins every aspect of school life. Leaders have exceptionally high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring that barriers to learning are identified early and removed wherever possible.

Opportunity Without Limits

A key strength of the school is its unwavering belief that every child should access the same rich curriculum and wider opportunities as their peers. Adaptations are carefully considered during the planning process rather than being added retrospectively. Staff work collaboratively with parents and external professionals to ensure that individual needs are met without limiting pupils’ experiences.

Nurturing Every Child

The pastoral support available throughout the school is extensive and highly effective. Leaders work closely with a range of external agencies, including occupational therapists, counsellors, art therapists, PE specialists and the Local Authority Behaviour Crisis Team where appropriate. Social, emotional and therapeutic provision is carefully tailored to individual pupils through sensory diets, nurture approaches and personalised support.

Foundations For Flourishing

Provision in the Early Years lays particularly strong foundations. A clear focus on language development, high-quality interactions and practical, hands-on learning enables children to develop confidence and independence from the outset. Purposeful child-led and appropriately risky play encourages curiosity, resilience and problem solving. The highly successful Drawing Club approach has significantly enriched children’s vocabulary, developed their imagination and provided meaningful reasons to write, resulting in high-quality written outcomes from an early age.

Experiences Enrich Learning

The curriculum is enriched through experiential learning and carefully planned opportunities beyond the classroom. Initiatives such as the school’s “100 Things to Do Before You Leave West Cornforth” ensure that every pupil benefits from a wide range of cultural, creative and personal development experiences. West Cornforth Primary School demonstrates a deeply embedded culture of inclusion where every decision is made with pupils’ best interests at its heart.
