Holte School, Birmingham in the West Midlands, achieves Flagship School status for the second time.
Context
Holte School is in an area that has been severely impacted by the COVID pandemic. Infections and bereavements have been very high, and this has significantly determined how the school has implemented its action plan. The Assistant Head reflects enthusiasm and tenacity in continuing to drive the SEMH, Attachment and Trauma agenda and he is supported by a highly trained and committed team.
A Successful Return To School
The school has responded positively to the crisis and has used every available resource to support its students. Leadership has ensured that training of staff has continued and has formed strong links with external organisations to support and complement ‘in house’ work. A ‘forensic’ approach to monitoring the wellbeing of students during lockdown was adopted, facilitating a successful supported return to school.
Exemplary Inclusive Practice
The bringing together of the best of both curriculum and pastoral practice into a pedagogy which is underpinned by a commitment to students being ‘fit to learn’ and staff mutually supporting each other to deliver the best possible learning experience for students, is a timely and exciting development at Holte. Furthermore, it is exemplary inclusive practice.
