Ambassador International Academy (AIA) has achieved IQM International Centre of Excellence status in recognition of its strong, coherent and inclusive educational philosophy. The school demonstrates inclusive practice that is not only secure and embedded, but also reflective, ethical and sustainable, with inclusion clearly led, well governed and consistently enacted across the school community.
A culture of belonging and inclusion
AIA demonstrates a clearly articulated and deeply embedded inclusive ethos that is consistently understood and enacted across the school community. Inclusion is not positioned as an additional provision or specialist function, but as a shared value that informs daily practice, relationships and decision-making at all levels of the school.
During the assessment visit, students across Primary and Secondary phases confirmed a strong sense of belonging, safety and acceptance. Students articulated that differences are normalised and respected, and that staff are approachable, responsive and supportive. Students consistently described the school as a community where “everyone is included” and where they feel known and supported as individuals.
Staff interviews and meetings further reinforced that inclusion is understood as a whole-school responsibility. Teachers, leaders and support staff demonstrated a shared language around inclusive practice, high expectations and equitable access. Inclusive principles established in Early Years are sustained coherently through Primary and Secondary, ensuring continuity rather than a dilution of inclusive values as students progress through the school.
Inclusive leadership and practice
Leadership at AIA demonstrates a strong, inclusive and strategically coherent approach, with inclusion clearly positioned as a core responsibility rather than a discrete function. Strategic decisions relating to staffing, resourcing, curriculum pathways and wellbeing provision are informed by data, professional judgement and a strong moral purpose.
Governance arrangements were found to be effective and appropriately engaged, with investment, staffing and professional development decisions clearly reflecting inclusive priorities. Leaders actively monitor the quality of teaching, learning and inclusion practice through learning walks, lesson observations, data analysis and professional dialogue. These processes are used not only for accountability, but to support staff development and continuous improvement.
The curriculum is broad, balanced and well structured, with inclusive principles clearly underpinning its design. Teachers work collaboratively with the inclusion team to ensure that learning is accessible without lowering expectations. Scaffolding, visual supports, assistive technology, flexible grouping and adapted outcomes are used where appropriate, with adaptation positioned as a universal teaching responsibility rather than a specialist add-on.
Supporting every learner
Teaching and learning at AIA reflect a strong commitment to inclusive pedagogy, high expectations and learner engagement. Across phases, classrooms are purposeful, calm and well organised, creating environments in which students feel safe, supported and able to participate actively in learning.
Assessment is purposeful, inclusive and clearly linked to teaching, learning and progression. Baseline assessments, formative strategies and summative data are triangulated to inform lesson planning, targeted support and curriculum adaptation. Individual learning profiles and Individual Education Plans are used effectively to monitor progress, particularly for Students of Determination and English language learners.
The school also provides flexible academic, vocational and skills-based pathways, enabling personalised progression while maintaining dignity and aspiration. Behaviour and personal development are supported through a proactive and relational approach, with wellbeing provision, student leadership, service learning and inclusive sports providing opportunities for students to develop resilience, confidence and agency.
Partnership with families and the wider community
Partnership with parents and families is a significant strength of AIA’s inclusive culture. Parents described communication as clear, timely and accessible, highlighting the approachability of staff and the consistent availability of the inclusion team and teachers. The school provides structured opportunities for parental engagement, including parent-teacher meetings, student-led conferences, individual planning and review meetings, and informal forums.
The school also makes purposeful use of local, wider and global partnerships to enhance inclusion, wellbeing and learning opportunities. External agencies, including therapy and assessment centres, wellbeing organisations and specialist providers, contribute to coordinated support for Students of Determination. Global citizenship is embedded through the International Baccalaureate framework and brought to life through international trips, Model United Nations, service learning and student leadership initiatives.
Overall, Ambassador International Academy demonstrates inclusive practice that is authentic and sustainable. Practice is informed by evidence, strengthened through partnership and underpinned by a strong moral purpose aligned with both international and local frameworks. The school is well placed to act as a model of inclusive practice, sharing effective approaches to leadership, curriculum design, wellbeing and partnership working with other schools within the network and beyond.
