Karen Coxon
IQM Assessor
Karen is an Assistant Head Teacher responsible for inclusion in a large, 4 form entry primary school and nursery. She has been an effective and proactive SENDCo for over 18 years. She is a member of the school senior leadership team but also has extended her leadership skills by working voluntarily on wider Local Authority committees. These include the Local Authority Strategy Panel, Early Year’s Inclusion Funding Panel, serving on the Local Authority SEN Assessment and Review Service Panel, serving on two school Governing Boards with responsibilities including staff representative, Vice Chair of a Board as a Parent Governor and Chair of the Resources Committee in a school additionally resourced to support children with physical disabilities.
Karen is proud that her school has held IQM Flagship Status for the past 4 years and believes the journey to maintaining this has been rewarding. Having the opportunity to visit other schools in a number of different boroughs is informative and enables schools to learn so much in the process. Sharing ideas, sharing resources and being there to talk to each other is a powerful resource. Karen believes Inclusion and meeting SEND needs across the whole school community is her vocation and finds it truly rewarding.
