Westfield Infants in Hinckley has been reassessed and achieved Flagship School status again.
Context
Westfield Infant School is a large and highly successful establishment located in a suburban area of Hinckley and serving a mixed catchment, including some areas of deprivation. Most parents are from white British backgrounds and very few have English as an additional language.
Specialist Provision
The school benefits from a local authority specialist unit for children with moderate learning difficulties and, in addition to this, attracts other pupils who have a variety of additional learning needs. A key feature of the provision at Westfield is the fluid integration of children with additional needs into mainstream classes and other aspects of school life, wherever possible.
Progress is Very Good
Many of the pupils who join the school have weak starting points but, as a consequence of the quality of teaching and learning, the careful tracking processes and the effective recruitment and deployment of personnel, progress is very good. The effective teaching of phonics and breadth and depth of reading resources support rapid acceleration of children’s literacy skills.
Ambitions are High
This is a setting where ambitions are high and where the school has a long-standing pathway of success, ranging from successive outstanding Ofsted inspections to ongoing recognition of its positive inclusive practice by Inclusion Quality Mark, at Flagship level. Integrated inclusive practice is the norm. Provision of excellent resources combined with an enriched curriculum has led to diverse positive indicators in the form of high levels of pupil performance and through recognition by national agencies for its work across many facets of the curriculum. Leaders have also been effective in determining how the school may quality assure its work through external awards, among which is Inclusion Quality Mark Flagship status. The school continues to provide excellent practice by personalising learning to meet the diverse needs of all pupils in its care.
Reaccredited as a Flagship School
The assessor is delighted to recommend re-accreditation as an IQM Flagship School and congratulates the team on its ongoing commitment to positive inclusive practice.
